Block Printing
TECHNIQUES

Many of the block printers who post their work on the Web offer insight into techniques. Here is a sampling of some such sites.

Jean's Printmaking Home Page. Jean Eger Womack has been sharing her work online for several years, and has always accompanied it with wonderfully straightforward and concrete descriptions of how the work is done.

What is a Print? The Museum of Modern Art has created an interactive illustration of printmaking techniques, using Flash software.

Relief Printmaking Videos. Artist and educator, Bill Ritchie, has made available these videos, including transcripts that can be read online.

The Technique of the Color Wood-cut. A site devoted to American artist and teacher, Walter J. Phillips, reproduces his 1926 book on printmaking.

David Bull's Woodblock Printmaking Page. Includes an encyclopedia of Japanese woodblock printing and reproductions of instruction books.
